Here at the Pain Centre, “Jean Therapy” treatment is gentle, non-invasive and holistic, using a variety of natural therapy treatments and techniques to improve your health according to what you need at that point in time. You can learn more about some of these treatments and techniques below.

To determine what will be of most benefit to you, Jean looks at you as a whole, from head to toe, mind and body, as all are interconnected and the importance of this cannot be underestimated. You are a part of your own treatment!

Your First Appointment

At your first appointment, you talk! Jean spends time listening to your reasons for coming to see her and what you wish “Jean Therapy” to do for you. Your story about pain, anxiety, stress, lack of confidence, trauma or a myriad of things including exploring the what, when and how gives a full case history that enables both you and Jean to become aware of the reasons for your difficulties.

Then, on reflection, Jean will help you to set your goals (wish list) for your health and wellbeing. These goals represent a wide aim by which progress can be measured. An example of a goal is “I am able to run in a free and balanced way” (rather than “I have no pain when I run”), which is mind and body connected – pain cannot be relieved until messages from the brain get re-organized and tell the body how it can move without pain!

Muscle-checking is then used to design the treatment programme. This is very powerful and allows you to move through your changes by relaxing, releasing emotions, or doing rocking and movement exercises that will give the brain information on how to adapt the muscle tone in parts of the body to be in the most appropriate and optimal position.

Emotional release is an area which has produced major changes in pain an anxiety as shown in our research and clinical practice.

“Jean Therapy” often reaches places that other therapies may not, and can help you overcome anxiety, stress or pain, be it emotional or physical.

Releasing emotions is done in many ways, some of which are described below, but you are not expected to talk about the trauma in your life. You can think of it as counselling without talking!


Muscle monitoring

Kinesiology is a physical therapy that involves touch, gentle exercising and breathing with no pain involved. It is both a “mind and body” and “head to toe” treatment of energy medicine and gentle hands-on bodywork.

The process of muscle monitoring is used to assess what is functioning abnormally in the body and to decide how this can be corrected. By muscle balancing or emotional balancing the body, the body is then able to begin to heal itself.

Kinesiology is non-invasive; you remain fully clothed while lying on a massage table during treatment. It:

  • Brings you body back into balance to promote innate healing and wellbeing.
  • Eases anxiety and stress by addressing present and past issues without the need to talk and discuss the situations.
  • Provides clarity and calmness, keeping you emotionally and mentally balanced.
  • Relieves and stops persistent pain.
  • Improves range of motions and balances movement and flexibility.

Bach Flowers

Bach flower remedies are different combinations of 38 flower essences that gently work on your emotions to bring them to a resolution. You may have heard of (and possibly used) Rescue Remedy – that is just one example of a Bach Flower remedy.

These essences were devised by Dr Bach, a Harley Street doctor in London, in the 1930s. His philosophy was that it’s important to consider a person’s emotional health whenever they are ill (a succinct way of saying that it’s our emotions that make us sick!).

Bach Flowers alone can make a difference to your health and generally don’t interact with any medication or what you eat and drink.


Naturopathy is a holistic health discipline that can prevent and treat a wide range of conditions, both short-term and long-term issues, including stress, anxiety, digestive problems and much more.Naturopathy is guided by the healing power of nature and focuses on improving health and wellbeing via natural means.

A naturopath aims to treat the whole person and not just bits and pieces. Your physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing and how these factors are interacting are all considered. Together we determine the cause of your illness rather than just the symptoms. This provides a more comprehensive perspective on your health and wellbeing.

Jean, in discussion with you, may prescribe supplements, lifestyle changes (including diet and nutritional advice), and relaxation techniques

Treatment Duration

For initial treatment, expect 4 to 6 appointments on a weekly basis.

Often people require between 2 to 6 months for resolution of their health problems, with follow-ups every 4 to 6 weeks. It just depends on the changes you want to achieve and how well you want to feel!
